I use paper towels for the first few days, then switch them over to pine shavings. Any brand will do!

I just use kiln dried pine shavings from the farm supply store

It will not hurt their feet. Just make sure they are shavings, not wood chips. I use paper towels for the first few days so that they learn where the food is. Then it won't be a problem! They do like to scratch and peck around in the shavings, but it is nothing to worry about.

Make sure not to use cedar. They can't take the fumes. And if you use news paper, use just the black and white pages unless you shred them up good...the glossy color pages are slick and they can't walk on them.
