I was walking through my field when I noticed a large white egg with a hole in the side of it and all the contents removed. I have seen canadian honkers and malard duck in my field which one was it and what ate the contents (coons)?

Without a pic, I have no guesses.

As for who ate it... skunk, civet cat, weasel... oh there are lots of vermin that 'suck' eggs.

My guess would be a skunk. In the spring the majority of their food consists of bird eggs. Have read a couple of studies which pinpointed skunks as THE #1 predator of waterfowl, primarily through nest predation.
