What meds to stock up on?

Are you getting baby chicks? If coming from a hatchery, chicks can be vaccinated there for coccidiosis and Mareks disease easily. If they receive no vaccines, it might be good to have Corid on hand, in case of coccidiosis. Medications can expire, so sometimes it is nice to just know where you can get medicines in a hurry. Most antibiotics are no longer available to us from feed stores anymore. Some may be found online for fish or pigeons at this time, but it is not good to treat unless you know what is wrong, since using antibiotics on chickens may add to antibiotic resistance. medicines also enter the meat and eggs, and most do not want to eat that.

Wormers such as Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer and the Equine paste may be handy to have on hand if you worm preventively or suspect worms. Syringes (3 ml) are best to measure those, and found at feed stores or online. Remove needles to give orally. 1 ml syringes without needles are available at most pharmacies free for baby or animal medicines.

Chlorhexidene 2% spray or liquid is an excellent disinfectant for wounds and cuts, for both chickens and your family. Plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment are good to use after disinfecting a wound.

Vet wrap is handy and cannbe cut into thinner strips to use on foot or leg wounds. 2x2 gauze pads are inexpensive and work well with the vet wrap for foot dressings.
