Just about the same, scratch, kitchen scraps, cooked rice and noodles, black oil seeds, lots of bean sprouts (their favorite) I also give them some leftover cat food but not too often. Oatmeal and carrots. All of our chickens in here eat very well.

Mine get their 16% layer and a 20% layer supplement instead of the layer depending on the time of year. THen they get to dig though as much kitchen scraps as they want that get tossed outside on the ground.

Whatever doesn't eat them first! [IMG] jk

My chickens gets everything that I used to put in my compost pile. Now they compost it for me. I just shovel out the coop poop& straw toss it in the bin and wait until the winter to shovel into the garden

I find mine go crazy for KFC!!

OK, just kidding. I don't eat fast food.

They get everything from my garden that doesn't go to the pigs or goats first. This time of the year, there are no pigs, so they are getting everything from the kitchen that would normally be composted.

If the chickens don't like it and don't eat it, then the bugs surely will. Then the chickens eat the bugs and the scraps have served their purpose!

Just to point out...food with high sugar or salt shouldn't be given. It really doesn't harm them if given lightly but it doesn't help either, so its like, why bother right? : ) Ex. Noodles, Chips, Crackers, etc...if you look @ the Nutrition facts, barely any has nutrients but are super high in salt content and some high in cholestorol, etc. "You are what you eat"...and that same rule applies to our little feathered friends too. Hope this helps [IMG]

Anyone ever fed alfalfa pellets along with the layer? I wonder if it changes the taste of the egg....considering alfalfa has a strong but great smell. Ive heard it changes the color of the yolk to a really dark orange.
