I am looking to get some Cornish X for the first time to raise for meat, but until I have a little experience with it I don't want to caponize any on my first batch. What is anyone's suggestions on getting male vs. females?

You can get straight run for less money. They grow so fast they're butchered long before any aggression in the cockerels. The cockerels grow faster so you can stagger your butchering males on a weekend and females the next. Unless uniformity is a priority there's no need to purchase all of one sex.

I've gotten straight run, and you get a little of both. Hens don't have as many health problems in my opinion, but cockerels will weigh more. Hens will usually be less expensive too.
