What size cage for chicks until they get to go to the real coop?

I have my 6 week old chicks (4 cochin mixes) in a 2 foot x 4 foot cage with a roost. I keep them in there all day, except for about 30 minutes when the other chickens are still in their coop/run. I worry that the babies don't have enough room in that small area. Are they ok in there until they get to 10 - 12 weeks old or do they need a bigger area? Thanks.

It seems kind of small. Hard to keep sanitary. I have 12 three week old silkie chicks in a brooder about that size and it's getting to be a full time job! Hope you can find some safe space! [IMG]

We haven't had a hard time keeping it clean. It is like a chicken tractor so we move it every couple of days. We might just keep with it. We can start putting them in the adult chicken run while the adults are free ranging (which is about half the day). So, half the time in the 2 x 8 cage and half the day in the chicken run. That should work out fine, at least for another 4 weeks or so.

Agree. If you are moving it, you have more options.
