Hi all, I have mumma duck sitting on nest and are due this weekend, Ive built a run around and over her nest site with a mud swamp in their playground!
Im just wondering what size the babies will be and wether I need to reinforce the bottom of the wire with finer mesh so they dont get out and into trouble!
are they as small as bantam chicks or standard chicks?
Sorry Ive never seen day old ducklings before!

1/2 inch hardward cloth works well. Make sure nothing can dig in underneath either. We have foxes digging into the cages every night trying to get in.

Thankyou, I have standard mesh for the main run and ive reinforced it with 1/2 inch around the bottom section.
Yes i hope foxie doesnt return this year.
He hasnt been around for 2 years.
Im going to get a solar radio for the pens and blast him with some rap music, ill have it going through the night, not too loud that it keeps the cheepies awake!

i have never hatched chickens but i have rescued a few of them that were pretty small. I did a rescue of day old mallards and put them in my crate in the van and they were able to slip out of the door. So they are pretty small.
