I ran out of chick feed and can't go to town for 2 days... What can I feed them?
For two days, you can feed them kitchen scraps, or chopped up hard boiled eggs. Or dry oatmeal (without added sugar) or any unsugared cold cereal. Or cook some rice for 'em. Or some pasta. Chopped up salad greens.
I have some chopped up raisins, peanuts and dried pumpkin seeds with a little cooked oatmeal. Will that be good?
Yup. It won't hurt them... but do add some grit, because some of those seeds need grinding up in their crops, and if they've only had commercial chick feed so far, they'll need some grit. Regular old dirt from your yard, with small pebbles or tiny bits of gravel will do.
A couple days, you will be fine, I'm sure! We've run out of feed before too, and as our chickens free range all we needed to give them was some shredded bread and a bit of cooked egg.
