What tree to plant in Charlie's Garden?

What about a Burning Bush. Mine is huge. 6'-8' tall and about the same around and just beautiful come late summer and fall. And it has a nice shape and the birds love to perch in it.

Another vote for dogwood - ideally a variety that's native to your area. Weeping willows are beautiful, but if you're trying to avoid invasive roots, not the one you want.

I might give some thought to going up in the woods and finding a dogwood sapling. The native ones seem to have less trouble than the nursery bought ones.
I also want a magnolia, but that would be too big for Charlie's place. I actually tried growing one from seeds from the really old and really large magnolia up at the old homestead, but it didn't thrive.

I love dogwood, but a nice shrub might be American beauty berry. This shrub has a somewhat drooping habit, and looks unimpressive most of the year, but the berries are among the loveliest around. One of my favorites, and it's native to Arkansas, so it should be easy to grow. If you are unfamilar with the plant just google it. It has gorgeous purple berries all along the stem.

I vote for a dogwood. so lovely in the spring time. You do not want a weeping willow as its roots are very invasive. believe me, I know from experience. lol

Kat, I have always planted fruit trees or roses on my buddies graves. But I think a dogwood would do well there. What about the pink/red dogwoods? They are beautiful and a bit different.

A pink dogwood would be very appropriate since she was a little girl.

I planted iris bulbs on my English Setters grave and mock orange and gardenias around my little doxies.
