We went kayaking today in the river a few miles from our house. A couple miles up river we found this duck. What kind is it?

DH had the camera and didn't get any good pics of it.

Quote:Was a nice trip today. We went up river a few miles and then floated back down. Put the boats in just over a mile from the house, so no hour drive like we did yesterday to kayak in a creek that was too low and blocked on both ends and didn't want to drag boats around in the muck.
Today was nice clear moving water with no critters supposed to be in it (snakes and gators - the place we were yesterday likely has both)

    More pics from today

We had lots of fun. Last weekend we went in a lagoon in Gulf Shores (40 min drive) and it was crazy windy so we stuck to a small triangle for 90 mins since it was the first time I'd ever been in a kayak and we brought just the truck and didn't want to end up at the other end of the lagoon from the wind and have to walk 8 miles back lol
We borrowed the boats from a guy that works for DH. I think we've found ourselves a new hobby to do together, so now we are looking at kayaks and hope to find some we like used so it isn't so darn expensive. And get a rack for my car so we don't have to take the gas loving truck everywhere to do it!

    Very nice, thanks for sharing.

I have a weird water (dirty creek/lake...bla bla bla) thing so I am not able to do that. But I sure do enjoy the beauty of it.

That's a coot. We're being overrun with them where I live right now. If you want a few, I'll try to send them your way, but they usually like to travel from north to south and not west to east.
