I have a 12 x 12 concrete slab- dog kennel. Would it be better to build on slab and put down shavings or build on 4 x 4 with plywood floors? Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the slab. Concrete is the best coop base/floor, IMO. Whether you use the whole thing, or part of it for a coop base. But, I would let the chickens out in the yard, vs, keeping them on concrete full time. They like the dirt.

Thanks you guys. That's what I was leaning to, cheaper because I don't have to buy wood for floor.

Here is a pic of the coop. Started Wednesday. Going along quite nicely!! Left to do is the white tin roof and red siding and white trim.

I second the Deep Litter idea, the concrete slab would make the periodic cleanup much easier. If I may make another suggestion, make your threshold removable or leave it out completely. That way you can just scrape the old litter out the front door into the run.
