Seems to be getting worse. Small scabs on her back maybe ? Any ideas ?
Do you have roosters in your flock Looks as if it may be 'rooster damage' caused during mating.
No - 7 hens and that's it
Wow nothing at all ? No helpful pointers or ideas ? Anyone ?
Any chance another hen is pulling her feathers out? I haven't had this happen but there's been a couple posts lately about chickens plucking/eating other chickens' feathers. I can't really tell from the pic, but does it look like the feathers are plucked out or broken off?
When I pick her up and look there is no broken feathers in there her skin is smooth as far as that goes but does look "dry" or irritated.
Problem is I am so new to this I have no idea if it could be caused by mites or ? And I have no idea what to try to make it better. Is Neosporin a yes or no now ? I've read both ?
Here's a thread about Neosporin, apparently there's different kinds of it. If you have the kind without pain reliever in it, that's okay for chickens, but the kind with pain reliever can be harmful. Do you have a store that sells Vetericyn? That works very well. Have you checked the hen for mites to rule that out?
Also, how long has she been like this?
Well as far as how long - she always looked fuzzy - her name is Muzzy. But now it's worse and missing feathers. It's been worse for a e few weeks now.
I would love to check her for mites - how does one do that and I will do that tomorrow ! And will look for the Vetericyn tomorrow as well ! Thank you for the replies and I will look into the mites and what to look for
How's your hen doing? I'm hoping somebody more knowledgeable will hop on this thread and give you some advice, I haven't dealt with anything like this with my peeps yet.
