What's she doing ?

    Just went out to collect eggs and caught one of my older hens in the box covering herself in straw ? I've never seen one of the girls do that before . Is it something normal I've just never caught them doing ?

    Well, it's normal for the ones that so it. :D

    It's believed this is throwback behavior from waaaay back, when chickens hid themselves in their nests.

    All that's left is that totally inadequate bit of "covering up" - I like to say a hen is feeling "pretty" and decorating herself after laying a particularly wonderful egg. ;)

    Oh cool thanks . She's the only one of mine I've ever caught doing it . I'm pretty sure this is her first egg since her molt so I'd say it was a special egg and a fitting time to make herself look pretty . She sure looked awful cute covered in straw[​IMG]
