Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with his earlobes? :( When we got him, he only had a couple of these little dots, but now it's so much worse, and yesterday there was blood too so we separated him from the girls. He has got absolutely no other symptoms. Some of the hennies of his breed do also have the same kind of dots on earlobes, but small.

    Thanks a lot in advance...

It looks like it could be fowl pox, a virus spread by mosquitoes. It will run it's course over 3-5 weeks if there are no complications, such as eye infections or wet pox. Wet pox causes yellow patches inside the throat, esophagus, or airway that can affect breathing, and make it painful to eat. For the external scabs you can apply iodine to help dry them up.

Thanks a lot Eggcessive, I guess it could be, although we have seen fowl pox in our birds (about 2-3 years ago) but this boy doesn't have anything anywhere else except on the earlobes, and it's been going on for several weeks like this, just very slowly getting worse and worse. I was just wondering if it is something specific to breeds with these big earlobes or something, because really the few ladies of his breed that we have also have these dots but in a very small number so they don't bother them at all it seems. I am going to take him to our vet also. Just wanted to get some ideas/inspiration here so maybe together we can figure out what it is. I am also going to ask the breeder we bought him from (I guess this should be number one person to ask really).

Any more ideas anyone please? Have you seen it before in your birds?

The white spots around his eyes looks a little like favus, a fungal infection of the skin, but that sure does appear to be favus on the earlobes and on the comb in the second picture. (I am editing this because I meant to say that I meant fowl pox, not favus on your ear lobes and comb.) I haven't seen too many pictures of the large white earlobes before, but pox is my best guess. I'm not sure if favus could look like that on white earlobes. The 2 pictures below are of a fungal infection (favus.) Here are some links for you with pictures:

Thank you so much, wow, I learned something new! I really still don't feel it's pox because we've seen it before and this is very different, but I will take it into consideration also. The fungal infection you posted is new to me though, thanks, if not for this case I'll remember if if I ever see it. Thanks a lot for your feedback.

It looks like it could be frostbite on the earlobe
