I have 3 five-week old chicks, the mother is a silky bantam mix, the father is a Rhode Island Red. How soon can you tell which of these are hens and which are roosters? I see no sign of spurs on any yet, but I think those come in later? They're free range, with an extremely protective mother, so close examination is not possible. Angelica, Eliza and Peggy (clockwise) because surely names can influence gender? LOL Interestingly, the 2 brown ones have the extra silkie toe and the feathered leg, the lighter one doesn't.
