when do chickens begin laying?

    When do chickens begin laying eggs, I am getting a silkie and a frizzle and I am just curious.

    Anywhere from 18 weeks to 30 weeks, depending on the breed.

    my layed when she was 20 weeks i heard 20+ weeks so i would go with that.

    Congrats on getting the new chicks! I have 2 frizzles and so far they are by far my favorite chicks to look at!!! [​IMG]

    I forgot to answer your question cause I was excited about your frizzle--haha! I have heard at about 4 months old. By no means am I the expert though cause I still haven't seen a egg! Mine at just now 4 months old and I run out there everymorning hoping to see my surprise!!!!!!!
