When do chickens start laying eggs?

    Hi! I have 7 week old chicks and was wondering when they start laying eggs?

    My first egg was laid today and my chickens are 21 weeks old. I think 18-20 is early, but 20 to 24 is usual. It depends on the breed.

    Larger breeds can take longer--but not always. It really depends on the breed.
