ok, i may be the only one in the world that WANTS to baby chicks to grow up.. they are about 3 weeks and their back and wing feathers are really coming in but at what age do they get fully feathered? I also have silkies who are a few days old. When do their feathers come in??

It's variable. 3 out of 4 of mine have head feathering at 4 weeks. The other one is a slow feathering breed and I'm not expecting her to be covered for another two to three weeks. I brood outdoors so they get a wide range of temperature exposure while still having their heat lamp and draft protection. I'm told this makes for faster feathering although for me it's about dust control.

Loved your site. Can't believe how quick they are growing, mine are 4 weeks old now and in their big girl coop. I'm a nervous wreck and miss their peeping. I am getting more exercise thought going out to the coop to check on them.
