I may have heard one of my polish CHICKS crowing, although I believe they were just upset when one of their siblings tried to sit on them.

So I think they’re way too young, but when do they start to crow?

How old are they? Cockerels can attempt crowing at 4-6 months.
It sounds really weird, like they're being strangled.

I know that it is supposed to take a while, but I just hatched some Black Copper Marans that started crowing at one week and flying out of their 4 feet tall brooder at two weeks. Maybe I have "super-breed chickens" and could sell their eggs at specialty prices

I just recently bought 6 EE chicks. At 8 weeks, one of my cockerels found his voice and crowed morning, noon and night!!

It was kind of like a hoarse shriek. They are all a little under 2 months old.

There are YouTube videos of chicks crowing. The youngest is but a puff of down. Look up "baby chick crowing" and you'll see.
