Ok, I was planning on building a pole building (with fans and all the right chicken equipment) to raise either a couple hundread broilers or even 1 thousand. But now I just remembered reading something about having to get an "on farm safety inspection" Do I have to get this if im selling to stors or just to local people or do I need it when I own a certain number of chickens? THANKS
I would talk to your county extension agent for your local regulations. Or do what many do and say/do nothing.
I don't know about Ohio. "Safety inspection" sounds like something you would need for employees. I suggest that you contact your farm extension agent and your insurance agent before you go any further.
In Ohio, you can process and sell, from your farm, up to 1000 per year w/out any inspection or licence. You must have a licence and be inspected if you want to sell any birds at a public forum, ie farmers market, roadside stand, ect. Have you ever raised any meat birds?
