im not a mallard expert but most ducks will lay their first spring but mallards may be different because they are wild

A lot depends on where you live and the temperatures.

I have mallards..One is 9 months and other 1 1/2 years they both have been laying every day for about a month now and it is cold here..Wasnt expecting them to lay until Spring, had the boy mallard since they were little just got the girls 2 months ago..They have not seemed to want to sit on them and it has been so cold..they freeze and crack before I can even get to them! Hopefully this Spring they will make a nest and give me babies!![IMG]
