What is the average age when roosters start crowing? I have a chicken and I am suspecting it to start crowing but it hasn't yet. So if it doesn't crow until what age until I know its a hen? Thank you.

    Depends on the breed.

Some smaller breeds will crow as early as 3-5 weeks. Most don't until week 20-25.

Oh, my. JGs are slow to mature. I have a couple JG Roos, hatched at the same time, and only one of them crows. There are several other Roos in the flock who do crow, so maybe he's so mellow he just doesn't feel the need to express his masculinity and size. [IMG]

Had a RIR start at 5 months and did it all the time, then had a BR start at 3 months and only a few times in the morning and few in the evening.
