When do they stop sleeping like the dead?

It seriously gives me a heart attack every morning when I come down and find 'dead' peachicks in the brooder. They sleep on the floor or on their stuffed animal, wings flopped open, legs sprawled out sideways or behind them, neck draped forward- perfect 'I'm dead' posture like they were running around and just flopped over dead. They pop right up when they hear me say pi-wheep to them, but about how old are they when they stop dropping dead in their tracks and learn to sleep upright? The chicken chicks were done with this by now but these guys show zero signs of stopping. I'm already having nightmares of the morning I come down and they DON'T pop up!

Although it's admittedly cute when they are still young enough to sleep in your hand.

  2. I never really noticed at what age they stop doing that as much. Last weekend one of our 5 year old females was taking a dust bath and after awhile went to sleep in the sun. Same thing legs all kicked back laying on her side. They just like to get comfy I guess

Pavo, I saw that and thought DEAD AHHH- no, sleeping. Even the pictures scare me *tips over*

They are REALLY cute when I'm done panicking that they are dead, I suppose!

I think I have finally gotten to the place where I expect to see them doing it and I try not to disturb them, but I have shaken the cage before in panic and become very relieved when they move and look at me asking "what is your problem?". Now I just go get the camera. But yes, my adults do it sometimes and I go running out and they look up like "I got you again!". Peas are so cool!

Yeah the first time my mom got to see them sleeping, she came running to my room to wake me up and tell me my peachicks were dead. I asked if she said hello to them or shook the box and she said no. She left and I heard shake shake shake from the other room and WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP... she came back to tell me they were alive, like I couldn't hear. I admit, the first time I ever hatched chickens, that first day I looked in the brooder my heart dropped into my shoes because I thought I'd killed them all already! One day and I was already a terrible mom! Same thing though, just sleeping like logs *phew*
