When do turkeys usually start mating behavior?

I have 2 hens and 2 toms, Royal Palms, that are about 9 months old. I wasn't expecting any mating or egg laying till later in spring, NOT in the middle of winter! Should I separate them for a while yet, or do they actually start raising familys this early!? I was going to take the 1st eggs to incubate and then if one was broody, let her try and raise a few. But this was going to happen after I got them settled into their new homes with more space in, Oh , March! Am I way off? This is my 1st attempt at turkeys, we've had chickens for about 5 years. Whole new ball game!

ya, I was planning on separating them into 2 pair later. Guess I will have to find room or take one of the males out. Good grief. Can't anybody wait for spring? Guys!!!

Almost half of my turkey hens are laying now, but it has been an unusually warm winter. I am incubating them and will not let any brood their own poults until spring when it's warmer. You don't say where you are located, but I would think you would want to either incubate them or eat them this time of year. You should get about 150 eggs per hen, so they will have plenty to set in the spring![IMG]
