Just wanted to know when I should expect eggs??
How old are they now? Most chickens lay at around 18 19 20 - 24 weeks old
Most commercial hatchery strains lay fairly early. In my small flocks of 25 or so, usually the first egg showed up around 16 weeks, and they really get going at 18-20 weeks.
Got 21 and there almost 9 weeks old. So Iam hafe way there lol. Got some in the incubator now. First one piped 12 hours ago and this is the progress so far. Is this normal??
We have one leghorn hen and she is 21-23 weeks and just started laying on Friday! We actually got 2 eggs from her in one day, they are tiny! Now its just been one a day. I also watched one of our roosters 'coaching' her by getting in a box and 'showing' her what to do! If he wasn't cockk a doodle doing, I would have thought he was a hen too!
Lol yeal they are good layers. My father has a couple that was bought as two day old chic from some hatchery. I was goin to try hatch out some of there eggs but people told me that they wouldn't be no good cause they are commercial layers, is this true I wounder. I know there fertile eggs I have already cracked a few.
what do you mean cracked some?
Cracked them open to check if there fertile and they were from what I can gather from the Internet. Lol
How do u know?
