When Do you Turn on the Heat?

Last night for the first time , I turned on the heat. It went down to the lower 40s, when do you turn on the heat?

We don't have heating!

We stay cool.

So far this year we haven't turned it on. It was 28ºF here this morning. It's been unusually warm this fall, though - normally we turn it on by the end of September.

We started this month but only when it gets below 40F at night. I think I could hold off longer but everyone else in the house isn't as hot natured!

I watched the inside temp and when it finally hit 63 I turned the heat on and set it for 67.Ofcourse some rooms are warm,and some(like the master) is an ice box.Oh well. Our gas bill for winter is usually in the $200's each month.

I've been turning it on in the morning long enough to take the chill off on cold mornings. Probably won't run it full time until November. We have no heat in our upstairs so running it at night doesn't really do us much good.

Never use our electric heatpump. We heat exclusively with wood and our soapstone stove. We try to wait as long as we can stand it before getting into our wood supply.

The wife has been fiddling with the thermostat but I have the furnace turned off. he he. The snuggling has much improved! I wonder how long it will take her to catch on?
