I want to allow my chix to roam around the backyard and have limited free range, but I also have 2 full grown (several years old) male Guineas that roam the backyard.

Chickens are 5 weeks old

I have let the chix out into a run attached to the coop and the main Guinea has rushed the fence trying to peck the babies.

When and how should I introduce the big outdoors to the chix and how do I protect them from the Guineas?

Thanks!!

I'd wait until your chickens are mostly full grown - at least 12-14 weeks or later.

Guineas are very territorial and are likely to be aggressive towards the chickens at any age, but the larger the chickens are, the more they will be able to fend for themselves.

Good luck!
