...I would like to raise some turkeys. I currently have chickens and took a year of research before I felt comfortable enough in raising them.
Any pointers, tips, advice, information or good books to read? I will be converting a stall in my barn just for turkeys and house them separately from my 6 chickens. What are the main predators of turkeys?
Thanks in advance.

Read the threads in the Turkeys-Sticky Topics Index.

Learn about whether or not blackhead is a problem in your area.

Visit Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys where you can learn about many of the different varieties of turkeys.

You can find a lot of good information in the thread A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100 but you will need to sift through a lot of other stuff including humor.

Turkeys have the same predators as any other poultry although the adults are less susceptible to flying predators. I find other people's dogs to be the number one predator of any poultry.

Turkeys fly...especially when young. I start mine in a horse stall with netting to keep them contained, or else at only a couple weeks old they would be up in the rafters.

But they are fun...Generally speaking, chickens seem to tolerate humans, while turkeys seem to enjoy the interaction with humans.
