I just want to verify I'm doing the right thing? I'm not giving my turkeys any supplemental heat. 5 1/2 weeks old roughly. And, it's been very hot here the past few days, 90 Sunday, 93 Monday, 93 yesterday, 94/95 today, 92 tomorrow. Nighttime lows only have gotten down to about 73-76. Is there a temp range that I should consider restoring heat, say if we have nights under 60?
I take it you have them outdoors by now? It will probably be a while until we got temps below 60 I'd think. I forgot to look where your located though. David
No, right now they are in an improvised brooder in my garage. I'm in SE Michigan suburbs of Detroit. Anything is possible here weatherwise -- last year at this very time I had nights with lows around 38 and daytime highs in the mid 60's. This year is the opposite and hot.
If they are indoors they should be fine... Outdoors and the temp went below 60 I'd consider additional heat that they could get far enough away from it if they didn't want it. David
Thank you. That would certainly be easy enough to do. I'm building their outdoor permanent enclosure now and should have it finished this weekend.
If you start out with 95 for week one and reduce it by 5 degrees each week. By 5 weeks you need heat any time the temp drops below 75. At 6 weeks you need heat it temp drops below 70. At 7 weeks if it drops below 65.
