When they stop laying eggs....

I bought a bantam silkie last summer. I was told that she would start laying in the spring. She's never layed an egg. She goes into the nesting box every day for quite a while, but doesn't lay an egg. Then she squawks when she comes out like my other layers do as if she's announcing she's done.

Is this typical behavior for an older hen that doesn't lay eggs anymore?

It can be. There's nothing really "typical" bout an individual hens' behavior; they do all sorts of things.
