Can you mix 4 day old chicks with four week old chicks and when do chickens start having a pecking order? If you can answer this question it would be much appreciated. Thank you! [IMG]

Your 4 week old chicks already have a pecking order. They already know each other, have done some chest bumping, and stare downs, have slept on top of each other, have battled for feeding space and all the rest of the bonding.

Introducing 4 day old chicks into that group could be HUGE warfare, as these would be the defenseless little intruders. Frankly, there'd be risk of death. Personally, I'd never do it. 7 - 10 days on brooder chick age differential is pushing the window.

I mixed them a few days ago and the 4 week old chicks didn't peck them... much... it's usually quite nice to them. some times some cuddle up to each other and it's very cute.[IMG]
