I have some chicks that are about 5 weeks old and they are getting way to big for the brooder they are currently in. Is it safe to move these guys into the coop yet? I know they still need a heat lamp. I can easily run an extension cord for a heat lamp. There are 7 of them and they would be by themselves, not w/ my adults if there were any questions there about them being w/ bigger birds.

Thanks

Put them out, it's good for them. Keep a eye on them and if they get cold then give them a lamp over some bedding. My chicks go out on warm days at 1 month and my turkeys have been out full time for 2 weeks and they're about 6 weeks old. Nothing else, lock them in the coop so they start learning where home is.

if they are feathering out well you can wean them off the lamp by raising it a few inches every night until it's far away and then take it away
