Hey all. I'm incubating eggs for the first time and I bought an automatic egg turner for my eggs but I was wondering when to remove the egg turner and put the wiring back down in it's place? Hatch day is this Tuesday and I have no idea when to do it because I've heard that your not supposed to open the incubator when it's within 5 days of hatching. Any advice from seasoned veterans of incubating would be appreciated. Thanks

You would remove the turner on day 18... So... For you, lockdown would be sunday... So take it out on Sunday...

    Good Luck!![IMG]

ETA: I usually don't open after day 18... So within 3 days of hatching..

Stop turning on day 18. Bump up humidity to around 65%

Hatch day for me is on Monday and I just transfered them to the wire rack about 30 min ago. I was also told day 18 is lockdown day, so probably then. I am not an expert as this is my first hacth but that is what I have found on here and other sites.

    Good luck

Quote:How do you know the humidity? I don't have a thermometer that reads hubidity, only the temp. I just filled the bottom area in the LG still air baor with water like the directions told me to do. Do you think this is ok?

And, it's the last 3 days that you don't want to open the bator.. Not 5 days. Good luck on your hatch!

You can buy a hygrometer at pet stores located in the reptile/amphibian section... Filling the two outer trays might be enough...

ok two more days to lockdown. got my brooder ready to turn on, next hatch I'll buy a hygrometer and a candlelight. Haven't hatched eggs for many years, but had good success with mortality.
The more I read, the more nervous I get. I'm not leaving the house until all the eggs have hatched, I understand I should wait until day 25 to make sure they have all had a chance to hatch.
I'm far from town, so I'll go shopping for supplies so I can hover. LOL
A friend gave me 24 Jersey Giant fertile ? eggs and I saved 18 New Hampshire, RRs with a Barred Rock Rooster, hopefully come out with some red or black Sexlinks. I don't want the Jersey
Giants as they are slow growers and voracious eaters. The New Hampshires are so gentle and easy keepers and too big for the red tailed hawks in my area.
    Wish me success, not luck.

Would it hurt anything if I removed my egg turner on Day 17? We are doing this in my Middle School Science Class. My day 18 is on the weekend, and I don't live close to the school. Just wondering if I could remove the turner on Day 17 and things still be ok?
    Thank you for your help!
