I keep my chicks on starter feed until they're 16 weeks old. Then I switch to layer feed with free grit and free oystershell so they will be well prepared for laying when they get old enough.

if they are say 3-4 months old they can go to grower crumbles till they begin to lay
besure to mix the new feed as 1/4 to 1/3 with 2/3 of the feed old feed
then keep uping the new feed every day till old feed is gone
yjis way they don't stop eating and get used to the new grower
when they lay then put on layer crumbles
