How old do Silkie chicks have to be in order to tell if you have males or females?
I have 4 chicks and 3 of them are 5 days old and 1 is a week old.

Seriously, Silkies are a pain to sex accurately. Color can help. Buff or partridge birds, the color can help you sex them. You can have an idea around 3-4 months. White, blue, black....the color is no help at all.

It means I agree with what the first poster said, and I'm the third person agreeing.

And yeah....6 months give or take. Silkies are hard to sex.

Watch for wattle and comb development. The girls should have practically none until point of lay, and then very small.

Girls will be shaped more like a tear drop, lower to the ground, with their crest like a pom pom.

The boys will be taller and lankier, set higher, with their crest more like a mohawk.

But that all takes time to develop. And the feathers are uni-sex, so you won't get saddle feathers or any other kind of signs....except for the crowing...that usually is a good give away.
