I got my first ever set of chickens last Saturday - 2 gorgeous little Silkies! :)
They're around 4-5 months old and have settled in so well, though my fur baby dog isn't happy that he has to share his Mummy! Lol
I'm just wondering when they will roughly begin to lay?
Any information or advice will be greatly appreciated :)

Laying usually start between 16-24 weeks, but in a new home, even if they've laid before, they'll stop laying for a bit till they settle in

Thanks for your reply! :) they've settled in so well so far so hopefully there will be some eggs soon! Can't wait!

Mine took 5 months, but pretty much all started at the same time. Remember they are a broody breed, so you may go times without seeing any after they start.

If you have them on layer before they are laying you can delay their process. It can also shorten the cycle of of how long they consistently lay. In my neck of the woods we only have layer feed (seems no one carried all flock feed) and some pullets we bought extended the time before they started laying. We supplement their diet with other sources of protein.
I have them on Layers Pellets! Is there anything else you would recommend?
