most chickens start laying at 5-9 months....
watch their combs, when they start turning red they will start laying soon.

My welsummers (breeder quality) never start laying before 24 weeks. So you would want to get them ready pretty soon.

Any time now - if you run out of the starter, just switch them over.

Forgot to add that I switched them over to layer crumbles. The wait for those fresh eggs continues !!!!!

The wait is the hardest part! But, once they start rewarding you with eggs, the joy of finding them never leaves [IMG]

I have Welsummers that hatched the beginning of Sept and they're not laying yet. My only other Welsummers are about 41 weeks now and one of them just started laying within the last two weeks, either her sister has not, or they're taking turns with breaks in between. ;) I'm hoping my younger group will lay earlier because we're coming into spring as they reach POL, the others coming into POL during winter may have delayed laying.
