I recently started giving my girls a check up one a month to check how they are doing. I am wondering where their abdomen is, is it the part directly under the vent?

I felt it on one hen and it feels a bit firm, I can still squish it though, is it supposed to feel that way?Yes. Below the vent between the legs.
Yes I am also doing bug checks. The girls take Dust bathes regularly so I don’t worry much about lice or mites. I’m always looking out for worms though since the girls free range.Good that you're checking regularly....along with Bug Checks?
You'll get to know what looks/feels right and what might be a problem(especially if there are other symptoms).
Most worm evidence can only be seen thru a microscope.I’m always looking out for worms though since the girls free range.
I believe I heard that the only way to know for sure if a chicken has worms is through a fecal float test which I believe is done by a vet, but I am unable to see one around here so I need to look for signs such as weight loss myself. Most worm evidence can only be seen thru a microscope.
Only round worms and tapeworms can be seen with the naked eye in the poops.
Yep, even then it may take several fecals to catch them when they are shedding.I believe I heard that the only way to know for sure if a chicken has worms is through a fecal float test which I believe is done by a vet,
