    I love to watch them play in freshly laid hay.

    Thanks, and yes they fight over the best spots. It is really quite funny. If I lay down enough hay over the entire floor of the pen I may not see any birds what so ever. But I will see the hay moving around and hear them growling then all of a sudden I will see heads pop up out of the hay then disappear just as quick. It kind of reminds me of that game at the arcade were the ground hogs pops up out of their holes and you have to bop them on them on the head to get points. (NO bopping of quails though) Shelly I know what you mean, I have to shuffle my feet when I go in the pen to make sure I don't step on anyone.
