I'm having a hard time finding a Wing Web Needle any suggestions on where I can find one?
mine came with the fowl pox vaccine i got for my chicks:
Thank you!! I hadn't bought it yet but was waiting to see where to find the tool didn't realize it came with it!
LOL! i did the same and then i called them and they explained it came with it! use the vaccine i pasted above for chicks one day or older. The other vaccine, poxine
(which also includes a vaccinator) is only for chickens 6 weeks and older.
It was scary when i did the first one, it's easier if you have someone helping you holding the bird for you. You have to be very careful and not go through blood vessels, muscle etc. I used a sprayer with water to wet the area so i could see well. For very young chicks some people recommend breaking one of the two prongs off because their wing web is so tiny. I did mine at 2 weeks, so i used the double prong. All mine had the reaction after a week or so as they should have had.
I found a video on youtube that showed the process
but her hand was right in front of it... still informative.
scroll down here and it shows you where on the wing (not a great drawing but you get the idea)
see reaction (and also the place to puncture becomes more obvious):
It's easier than i am making it sound, i promise, you just have to know where to do it (and go through the wing web). I think it's really good to do it.
Thank you for the great info.
