My husband was just having a conversation with a local fisherman who makes his own fishing ties. The man said that he buys feathers harvested from a chicken who is raised exclusively for this purpose. Just curious to know what breed of chicken this would be.

    Sunny side up :)
My dh has made them from barred rock feathers. Probably any barred bird would do I think either the silver or golden cuckoo marans or even dominiques would work as well. I was looking at my pearl grey guineas feathers the other day and I think those would probably work good too.

Quote:Yeah, I have a friend who does this as well, so I really expected to get a bunch of replies saying that it's just Roosters with the right color/length feathers. I'm rather surprised by Redcatchers post. Absolutely fascinating! Thank you for the link.
