WHICH COMES FIRST? the PIP or the CHIRP?

Yup, usually before. Sometimes you get a quiet one though, and never hear chirping. Or you just miss it when it's awake. So that's not always a perfect indicator.

In my experience I almost always hear a chirp from inside the egg, about 8-12 hours before the first pip. So excited, I go into lockdown tomorrow with 14 eggs. It never gets old.
 
If they are late hatching I will listen to the egg up close to my ear before I rule them out and sometimes I can hear it chirping!
