I finaly convinced hubby that we just need a silkie.

He finaly gave in and said ok. We ordered our last chickens from MPC and are very pleased and have 100% laying hens from them.

We don't really have many chicken owners around here that have anything other that sexlinks, leghorns, egg production breeds. So finding someone around us with silkies is going to be hard.

I was wondering if any of the silkie owners that have gotten there silkies from hatcheries could share there pics and tell me if they did or do go broody often for them.

Silkies from a hatchery are terrible quality. A few years ago I ordered about 30 before I knew any better from Ideal! Just for pets they are ok.

If you want the real nice fluffy ones buy them from a good breeder. They will be more expensive but well worth it in the long run.

I totaly understand that they aren't going to be the best looking perfect fluff balls like they should be. I just really want them for there broodiness and there sweet temperment. So there look really doesn't matter all that much.

Just buy REALLY NICE breeder eggs ad hatch em yourself!!! It's fun!!! & you'll have the best looking little fluffy butts in town!!!

I like their Idea! Thats what I did to get started. I bought eggs from a breeder that had the colors and the type I wanted and I hatched the peeps myself.

I agree with this.

I am real amazed with there stock.. I think I am going to have to put a order in with them in the spring just to see what there silkies are like..
I found this the other day
