I'm not sure I followed who the hen and roo were for parents...I think you said Australorp hen and Buff Orpington roo, but could the Ameraucana and BO roo have paired? (Maybe that is what you are meaning, and I'm just slow here).
A chick from that mix would very well likely be a green egg layer....the blue (Ameraucana) with the brown genes (Buff Orpington)....that what gives the green egg...blue over brown.
Could there be any chicks from that pairing? (Which is maybe what you are asking).
My guess is the one you suspect that has an "odd" shaped comb...not pea but not single...likely a modified pea. And yes, the pea comb gene is closely linked to the blue egg color.
My guess is that bird is your green egg layer. Any Australorp/Buff Orpington cross would just give a range of brown egg as both of those are brown layers, and the combs would simply be a single comb (from my limited understanding of chicken genetics).
