White crusted feet and scales fall off

What would cause one of my hens to lose the scales on her foot and it turn white crusty? My other girls feet are fine and it is only one foot on this hen. She walks around but when stands she holds that foot up. I would post a pic but we don't have her anymore.

Without a photo my best guess would scaly leg mites.

I originally thought that also but what has me questioning it is the fact that it just affected one foot. Wouldn't scaly leg mites affect both feet?

Most of the time it is found on both feet, but it's possible for just one like in this link here https://www.beautyofbirds.com/scalylegs.html
Other than that is could have been some type of fungal infection affecting the foot.
