We have had these chicks since they hatched from eggs. This one in the front of the photo has developed a red, swollen comb. Otherwise healthy, eating and drinking, not lethargic. Has anyone ever had a chick like this? I assumed it was a rooster because of the darkened color, but then noticed the comb seemed swollen the last couple of days. They are almost 3 weeks old

Hi @crittercreek :frow Welcome To BYC

Looks like the chick has some scabs and a little bruising on the comb, probably from getting pecked or he got into a little scuffle.
For now since he's eating/drinking/active, I would just keep watch to see how it goes, hopefully it will resolve on it's own.

That's a thought, in addition to a peck, could be burned too?!

I guess it is possible, but the plate isn’t supposed to be that hot! But if he was against it for some time, maybe. I used the heater the last two years without trouble, trying to avoid the heat lamp ‍♀️ So far he seems fine other than the swollen comb.

I would just keep a watch on him for a few days, see if goes down on it's own. He may have pinched it on something. It's amazing what they can get into sometimes.
