White oak baskets

Anybody make them or have an interest?

I definitely have interest! I've wanted to make handmade baskets since I first read about them in the Firefox books. As well as chairs and other mountain people (AKA - my family, LOL) stuff.
I have made a couple baskets out of bark by cutting it down to the cambium and folding it up like a french fry box from McDonalds. Here's what I'm talking about - kinda hard to explain without pictures.

This is a Poplar bark bucket my dad made. We made some white oak baskets and my mom and dad collected them over the years. The ones we made are fairly crude but I own some exceptionally fine ones. Will put some pics up as I get the chance.

WOW those are nice. Do you need to cut the tree down or can you save it?
