I have some 1 month old chicks, I got a rainbow assortment from the hatchery, that are all white. How do I tell if they are White Rocks or White Leghorns?? Thanks!!

I think you will have to wait until they get a bit bigger. The leghorns will have a small, thin body type, and the rocks will be chunky and round. The leghorns will lay white eggs, the rocks will lay light brown (and probably not quite as many). And the leghorns will have big, floppy combs.

Leghorns will have white ears, Rocks will have red ears.

?"Rainbow Assortment"??? Don't they promise at least 5 different breeds?

You could have RIW, WR, PW Leghorn, Delaware, White Ameraucanas, White Wyandottes, White orps,

I didn't mean I have all whites (oops) I have about 8-9 out of 50. I will definately have to post pics and let you all help me know what I got!![IMG]
I ordered from Meyer hatchery and looked at all the white layers they sell and only found the White Rock and Leghorn. I know those white ones dont seem cold hardy as they are always under the heat lamp and the others are out. I will look at ears though when I warm up and brave the cold again [IMG]
    Thanks!
