Hello, I'm really new to keeping chickens and I purchase some dual purpose breeds with the assumption that after they stopped laying that we could eat them. I've been looking around at all the post and now am wondering would they be too ol to eat by the time they are not laying well anymore? I'm thinking they would be 2-3 years old when we would think of using them for meat. Is that too old to b good meat birds? any advice would be appreciated.

At that age they're pretty tuff. Boil them down and shred for: soup, pot pie, enchalada, caserole etc. They'll be too chewy for BBQ, roasting, fried chicken etc at that age.
