I have a silkie 3 or so weeks old. I believed it was a white silkie, well, because she was all white, not a spot of color on her at 3 days old... then I started to see a black feather or two. And yesterday I was looking at her and now she has several. She is still mostly white, but some black mixed in. Do white silkies get a few black feathers or is she some kind of splash? Thoughts?

Also, this morning I discovered my first roo. I noticed one of my Golden Laced Wyandottes with a pink comb and the start of wattles.

I vote for a splash, although the feathers are usually more gray then black. Pic?

I think a white silkie with black spots is a paint silkie. I saw them on feathersite, very pretty coloring. Splash has a gray base color and paint the white I think. They actually compare the 2 side by side on feathersite.

Unless in Europe, or someone has been working on a project [IMG] , it is a splash. There is a genetic difference between splash & paint. (That phrasing just lends itself to puns, doesn't it) [IMG]

The background colour for splash can vary from white (or nearly so) to a medium-light blue.

I'm at work, I'll try to get a photo tonight. She is a pretty, but silly bird. She is always challenging the top hats and cochins in our flock. And of course, I know she may be a he, but I know there is little chance on guessing correctly for several months.

    So, pic's coming later!
